Best and Worst covers

#1 Post by CastorTroy81 » Fri Aug 08, 2008 9:56 pm

Exactly what the topic says. We all know covers are usually nowhere as good as the originals but there are those that can surpass the original and those that are downright awful.

For me I find the 2 best covers that I can think of are
Johnny Cash - Hurt, cover of Nine Inch Nails
Gary Jules - Mad World, cover of Tears For Fears

And I think my least favourite cover has to be
4 The Cause - Stand By Me, terrible cover of Ben E King

I'm leaving out ones that are obviously just cheesy covers such as Mike Flowers Pops - Wonderwall and anything by Steps :D
Ebenezer Scrooge was a weak minded lightweight.

It's an cover of a Leonard Cohen song.

Will have to think about the bad covers

Best covers I can think of at the moment.

Hüsker Dü - Eight Miles High; cover of The Byrds.
Trespassers William - Vapour Trail; cover of Ride.
Dinosaur Jr - Just Like Heaven; cover of The Cure.

I'll get back with bad covers some other time.

Good covers:

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal (It's good, but nowhere near as good as the original!)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground

Bad covers:

Mark Ronson - Just
Westlife - Uptown Girl (I don't actually like the song or Billy Joel. I just hate Westlife that much, y'see.)
Murderdolls - White Wedding
All Saints - Under The Bridge

I think Craplife go without saying since they are basically just a covers group and are crap. :x

The White Stripes - Jolene, cover of Dolly Parton
Picturehouse - Papa Don't Preach, cover of Madonna
Albert Niland - Wuthering Heights, cover of Kate Bush
