So what was your first baby-step on the way to worshipping the glowing screen?

Mine somewhat gives away that I might be a bit ancient.

Sinclair Spectrum + :ugeek:

48K RAM and to load a program you had to buy a tape recorder. :wnw:

I was about to say rich git again, but realised it must have been fairly old.

One my dad's work friends had bought the apple in the US, we borrowed it before we got the beeb. Now if I'd had an IBM PC it would have been rich git.

Mine was a second hand Commodore 64. I was a bit behind my friends at school who all had either a SNES or a Megadrive. Still at least I had loads and loads of games to go with the C64. Plus if I wanted to buy a new game it'll only cost 4 or 5 quid.

It should be still around somewhere.

Not sure. My dad used to 'borrow' PCs from the school he worked in... They were alright, and came with a decent range of funtimes MSdos games! :D

First console I played was a friends NES. Those were the days...

My Spectrum+ and +3 are both in my parent's loft. The crappy 3" drive on the +3 died so no chance of playing any of the old games. *coughs* not that it was for playing games anyway. :)

Crappy old tape player still works. :el:

The first computer I ever used was a DOS machine and I would have been about 2. It had a "game" where the screen changed colours and I had to go find something in the house that was the same colour. There was also an alphabet game, but my parents had to remove the letter C because the 'C'lown was too scarey .

The first computer I got to control myself was a Windows 3.0 machine, must have been about 3. I remember all the windows would be open, there was no desktop. My File Manager or something was the My Computer equivalent. That was the first machine I wrecked. I opened Paintbrush, found some "dirty" pix-elated pictures, drew all over them, went into the directory they were stored which just happened to be the Windows directory and deleted everything. I also remember the monitor used to overheat if left on for too long, or was that an excuse to keep me off it...

The first PC I owned was a windows 95 machine from Tiny. I wrecked that one too. Installed a freeware game called "Bio", got bored and wanted to delete it. Went to DOS (back when boot to DOS was an actual option!) and searched for all files with "Bio" in the name and deleted them. Oh crap - nothing boots . I used to be able to navigate DOS quite well back then, now I can hardly remember how to change drives.

If we're talking consoles I had a Master System when I was 5 with a Sonic game. I was scared of that game because the spikes killed you and I couldn't jump at the correct time . It wasn't until I was about 7 that I got some friends round to complete it for me. From then I was hooked.

At primary school we never really got to use computers, that was for class A, class B wasn't good enough.

We've never owned a mac.

BT

Spectrum 128k +2. I'll admit we copied games, even though only cost bout £3. Double deck tape recorder. But had loadsa original games. Last one was street fighter 2. Waste of money really since hard to play. Had to load each character and always remember fast forwarding and rewinding. Insert tape 4. Searching for Ken. Found Chun Li. Rewind

Ha, at least with the +2 you could rewind and try again. If the + failed loading at any point, you had to reset it and start again.

BT: You were better off killing the Tiny, it would have let you down soon enough. Crappy machines.
