I'm getting really tired of removing this from various clients' computers. It's a nasty bastard piece of malware. It's a fake, the payment site is a fake and everything about it is fake and criminal.

So for f**k sake do not touch it with a barge pole.

This article whilst long and technical (a little bit anyway) explains it all.

You have a very good if somewhat blunt friend! :D

For those of you sailing the internet seas without antivirus protection, first WHAT THE F**K ARE YOU SOME SORT OF MORON? Secondly, this detects XP antivirus 2008 and it's genuinely free.

Isn't this just another one of those "Pretend to be Anti-virus programs"? Like Winfix and other junk. That one used to sit on Megaupload and redirect you sometimes. Those things can be annoying; as soon as you hit the page you're basically infected. This can be in the form of a pop-up or page re-direction. I bet it's a nightmare to get rid of too, like most of these things are.

I know I'm safe, and my other computers are since we all use individual firewalls which blocks this kind of stuff. And if it does get through one of the many anti-malware programs will catch it. But I can bet most of my neighbours will end up picking this up if it's as wide spread as Winfix was. Oh joy :? .

I hope you combine that with a good AV program. There are some nasties out there that use known services for their internet access.

This one seems to be run by a very business like group of criminals.

Yeah I'm aware of all that. Got programs to watch all connections in and out of the computer, can see what processes are acting odd. Although I can usually feel when a PC is playing up now and can get to the problem fast. That's what happens when you use the computer everyday for years  .

AVG with a 1 year subscription here, just for the Rootkit scanner. Although it found nothing so that was a waste. The free version does everything else fine and I recommend it to anyone whose' computer I go to fix. Had to disable the Web shield and Link scanner on mine though, they just slow IE too much. Just don't click stupid links and you won't need the link scanner. And the firewall conflicts with the Web shield, so one has to be disabled. :thumb:

During my early internet days I fell for alot of fake anti-spyware programs (WinX Defender, Spyware Sheriff, Malware Alarm etc), but I know better now thankfully and AVG Free Edition takes care of my anti-virus needs.

Me too, I just use the WOT add-on for Firefox, much faster and does a better job.
