Watched the first part of this. Was good if strange.
I hear the book is one of the best Discworld novels. Anyone here read the book that can compare to the tv version?

Of course, gotta love trailers when they ruin a cliffhanger by showing all characters, who may or may not be dead, alive and well.

Got the book. It is a very good one. Was bit surprised to find it was the next one they have done though. It is also one of the later ones.

I enjoyed it. Thought blokey as Moist was very good, and number of others too - like the pin obsessed laddie.

So far would say it's a pretty good adaption.
Think in Pratchett's books, like all books, things can develop slower and when he mirrors our world and develops new things - post office, movie industry, police force - it feels smoother, more progressive and logical. This went by faster, so didn't get that feeling. But it's tv so has to be quicker.
It still worked too. The laddie inventing stamp paper was spot on.

So can't complain at all really. One drawback could be the golems, who we know better by the time the book was done as they had been in others. Again, puzzled why done this one, but they have done it well.

Maybe the reason was because it was one of the more popular books.
Sure was wondering why they did Hogfather before Colour of Magic, which I know is the first book.

Oh yeah, forgot that came first. Think Hogfather worked as more self contained. A story set in Ankh-Morpork will vary as the city has changed a lot.
But yes, they're not sticking to the series. Makes sense though.

Angua didn't have a custom breastplate.

I think the 1st half flowed better than the 2nd but all in all one of the better adaptations.

The Golems didn't work very well at times, they looked too much like rubber suits.

I see Terry Pratchet was in it as well, according to the credits. The postman at the end, I'm assuming. How very Stan Lee of him. :)

I thought it was pretty good, enjoyed it. Would've taken a few different directorial decisions, but suppose that's a problem you'll always have with things such as this.

Yes. To be honest no idea who has directed each one, doubt the same person, so interpretation is always an issue.

I'm sure the banshee was played by the bloke who does that annoying drink driving advert, where he's the barman who goes through everything bad possibly happening. He was in Being Human too, if it is him.

I'd forgotten how the book ended so enjoyed watching it. Still felt rushed and the lesser characters flew by a bit in the second bit.
Had also forgotten about the Smoking Gnu. Made me laugh.

It was far more of a fan pleaser. All those characters that if you've read the books you understand and get the jokes. Like the vampire photographer.

Yes spotted him, not sure if he ever spoke. Watching it again recently, don't think it explored the two subplots about the letters speaking to him and the golems becoming their own people fully, but again, things have to be shortened.

Otto didn't speak, no. They did something with the letters guilt-tripping him though.
