NHK world [TV from japan]

...yet no anime  :(

once 24 news was so dull. then came Fox News and Al Jazeera, of course Fox News was right wing rant and Al Jazeera was a Jhadist love in (or that fox told us any way no one could under stand it). now every country has its own news net work broadcasting onto sky ready to

bluster on behalf of the mutterland. CCTV, Russia today even France 24 :lol:but now japan got in on the act with NHK world (Sky 516) . rolling 24 hour news from the land of the rising sun mixed in with cultural documentaries. i just see one called "Japan Cool" witch was a mishmash of short films, about wide eyed tourists wonder around going "wow the trains run on time." it all feels like some from the belly of a telly tube.

but maybe not all is lost (there be no point in posting if it was)
http://www.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/english/tv/imagine/index.html this looks like it could be a good show. its about world cospaly summit and there any interview with a random anima animator.

 --Dr 0--

Oh thanks, now something to turn on instead of just going to bed at a sensible time.

I think they have a very small budget :D

Dr O, you're a git!

I spent 20 mins watching a program about japanese careers. This one was about a guy who had decided to follow in his father's footsteps and become a master plaster. His dad discouraged him when he first decided because it's a hard life. His apprenticeship was hard and he got shouted at a lot. His father once won the national plaster's award. There was a far bit of "do you're best" and this is the career I've chosen.

Honestly, when you watch anime, you think it's all exaggerated and stereotyping, it really isn't

imagine-nation is well worth watching, they had an interview with the guy how created mobile suit gundam. that alone makes its a must for any giant robot fans. the other interview are good to.

the presenters tend to yell there links and jump around a lot, but they do know what there talking about. unlike the 2 from anime network.

It makes me feel like I'm back in Japan to be honest. It's like watching the Educational NHK channels, just with it being in English. Seriously.

If you actually want to watch Japanese TV as broadcast in ol' Nippon then this is a good site to check out.

If I'm channel hopping, I'll usually end up on NHK. Often around the time of the News, the one in japanese >.< The newscasters are so polite

I've watched the Imagine-Nation show a couple of times. I have to ask, is it a kid's show? Oh and when they're interviewing people why do they ask the questions in English when the answers are in Japanese with subtitles. I assume to be working on the show, they're fluent in the language.

It's for the english language market, so that's why the questions at least are in english.

I hate the bit where they all sit down and discuss what they've done :puke:

They remind me of children's TV presenters

But would it not be considered kind of ignorant to be able to speak the language but choosing not to?

Yeah they talk about how great it was and how envious they are of each other for getting to meet those people.

I think the presenters are rejects from Hi-5. Rejected for being too camp.

its not that its aimed at kids. it just they have no idea how to pitch it to a western viewers. there for they got the host how should be on a GMTV kids show and a voice over guy how you think is taking the piss out of 80's radio 1 DJ's. its forced, not that in-depth and not that well made. in short it not perfect. but that add to its charm. And it’s a lot more slick then you may think, look at say the shows on pulse and say thats any better.

Ah, but you're forgetting the magic of TV, most of those sort of interviews are done with one camera, so they may ask the questions in Japanese and get the answers then do a load of noddies and English questions afterwards with the guest possibly not even in the room. :D

So that's why none of the guests have ever asked the guy why he keeps doing those gestures with his hands when he's asking questions? :D

I've not seen the shows you've seen, but I've seen that J-MELO music show. Not too crap, that one.

I saw one show talking about coat-hangers, and these special wooden hand-crafted ones that you could buy for over ¥30,000 ($350)

That much for a freaking coat-hanger? Christ on a bike!

And another show about American termites damaging people's houses. Feck's sake, lads: Bricks!

I did also see what they had to say about Obama's inauguration (Not much, but I know how to write "Obama" in katakana now, so I rule.)

(And finally...)

I actually sorta wished they did some sort of report about the football transfer deal of "Kaka to Manchester City". They love football over there and this was one big fuck-off deal that could have really buggered up football had it gone through (thankfully, it hadn't.).
Maybe it's just me, but that would have been cool to see. Depends on who you are, though.
