Never read the book but been a few years since I saw it. Is the part that threw you the ending

I did like the bits where the PI was interviewing him. Really nicely filmed, drawing you into the bizarreness.

So what's left to watch? Like I said, I'm trying to clear my tv series backlog. Finished the last couple of discs of 6 Feet Under Season 2, Friday Night Lights Season 1 and Alien Nation since Wednesday night. So now starting Twin Peaks

As much as I love the film the book is far better although the ending is just as oblique. I do recommend reading the book if you have a strong stomach though since it's incredibly violent. If you want to read lengthy passages describing the air whistling out of an axe wound in someone's face then American Psycho does that admirably. On the flip side, you get a lot more of Pat's character; there are a few of his music reviews and you get a far more disturbing look at how bad his madness gets.

Prime Bbcode Spoiler Show Prime Bbcode Spoiler: Anyway, regarding the ending
The main problem is that Patrick is batshit insane. Therefore, his view of the events of the film and the book is very unreliable. I think it's heavily implied that the murders are all a product of Pat's psychosis and so they never actually happened at all. This gets even more complicated in the book though as there are moments where he meets people who he's previously attacked which would suggest that he perhaps carried out some of his attacks at least. But then again this could all be Pat making things up. When you're dealing with a central character who thinks a park bench is stalking him or that he should feed a cat to an ATM machine, it's anything goes really.

Finally watched Zaitoichi.

Pretty good, but it needed to be shorter and the cgi got in the way.

As for the tap dance sequence  WTF?

It's a Takeshi Kitano movie. Without a WTF then it just isn't Kitano.

I do love that scene though. Great beat.

Finally got round to seeing The Descent.

Hmm, who knew you could do that with copper piping

A good film, though the infinite flaming torch was a bit annoying. As if 100 year old paraffin would still light.

I'm getting as bad as you now with a backlog of movies on Sky+. Of course mine aren't all known for their greatness:
Alone in the Dark
Tomb Raider:Cradle of Life
Magnolia
Grave of the Fireflies
Azumi 2(Said it was Azumi in the planner but then after I started watching it, the credits said it was Azumi 2)

About 40 minutes into Alone in the Dark. I can't say it's a bad movie. Unless people were criticising it because it didn't stick to the game's story, which I wouldn't know.

Magnolia = Tom Cruise's greatest ever performance. Ever.

Sure it's 3 hours long but Philip Seymour Hoffman and William H Macy in the same film?! It's like Christmas come early.

Walk the Line I was quite impressed with. As for Kagemusha, a very good story but an impressive movie to watch. The battle scenes are something, and the one you don't see is tragic.

Well Alone in the Dark, Tomb Raider and Grave of the Fireflies (or Graveyard of Fireflies as Film4 called it) watched. Adding Reign of Fire to the list. Some day they'll all be watched.

Just because I squeezed 3 movies, an episode of The Dead Zone and Burn Notice all into 1 day? what else are Bank holidays for?
