Your best DVD bargains

This has to be for films that we've actually heard of (no crappy straight to DVD obscurities) and not bootlegs.

Inspired by the fact that I wandered into my local blockbuster and came out with 3 DVD for £6. Admittedly they are caseless ex rentals, but I've never been one for cases and boxsets.

I'm guessing Enki might be able to beat us all with this one, seeing as how she probably cherry picks all the good stuff.

I once bought a boxset of 20 kungfu movies for maybe 20 or 30 quid. About half were crap, but still worked out well.

Also got Gremlins 1 & 2 for about £4. :mrgreen:

I got Dark Angel seasons 1 and 2 for £20 (£10 each) from my local music zone before it closed down, also got Excalibur, Clerks and Clerks II for £10

I got Lady in the Water on Blu Ray for £7.99 from Toys r us. What a strange and very boring film.

You can get Star Trek sets for £15 now

remember when they first came out at £85 a season. What a big chunk of plastic!!!

Also Memento for £4.99, a 3 disc version. This is an incredible film so can't wait to watch over and over.

The 3 disc version also includes the easter egg that lets you watch it in chronological order. At least I assume it does since the single disc version did.

Apparently Christopher Nolan has said he doesn't want the film watched that way. But I actually caught a few things I missed the other way. Well as long as you watch it in the original order first then you can watch whatever way you want afterwards.
And great thing about Memento, we got to see the film before America, and they didn't get that Easter Egg until much later than us.

Can't remember any bargains I've gotten dvd-wise since I usually get them as part of a 5 for 30 sale in Virgin/Zavvi.
But I do remember back when videos still took up as much, if not more, shelf space than dvds in HMV. I went upstairs to check out the videos and found a stack of Shawshank Redemption videos at 99p each.

Speaking of us over the US, any John Carpenter fan can delight that we have certain of his movies with commentary and they don't.
I mentioned Big Trouble in Little China with Carpenter and Russell talking on a movie site and the americans didn't get it.
We also have They Live with Carpenter and Rowdy Roddy Piper, and apparently The Prince of Darkness has commentary too, although don't have that one.

No idea why we have and they don't, were done over there.

Oh, and Spaced, for us we have the cast talking, but in the States they have the likes of Kevin Smith and Tarantino and so on. I know which I prefer!

I thought they also had the cast as well.

Well at least makes a change that we get stuff they don't. Never understand why we can't all get the same content. Think in some cases it's copyright issues. At least I think that was the reason for us not getting the MTV Movie Awards sketch on the Fellowship of the Ring extended edition. I declare shenanigans!

Think someone was saying the best commentary is probably Evil Dead 2. Though I stil want to get the Cannibal:The Musical dvd with the drunken commentary. :drunk:

Evil Dead 2 is excellent. Have that, on cheap too, got all three for good prices.
I like all the ED commentaries though.
Oh, and Bubba Ho-Tep has director and Campbell too, but also Campbell as Elvis! :wnw:

I love the Big Trouble commentary. Carpenter and Russell really enjoy the movie, Russell has a great time laughing at himself, and they talk about the business. Fun and fascinating.

Red Dwarf commentaries are brilliant fun as well, although got that for £14.99. Outrageous!

I think I got all 3 ED movies pretty cheap as well. But had to pay full price O.O

for the Evil Dead Necronomicon edition.
To be honest, the only commentaries I've ever watched/listened to are the Resident Evil and the Goonies. Goonies commentary is great! It's a video commentary with all the kids and the director back for it. Though Sean Astin left during it because he had to go film some small film about a ring. :roll:
