I suppose this would be like a "The last film you saw" thread. But for a difference, hows aboot you say whether you liked the film, and how much, or if you hated the film, and how much.

The last film I saw was "Mike Bassett: England Manager."

In this, Mike Bassett (Ricky Tomlinson) is appointed as manager of England national team because nobody else wanted the job. (A big step-up from managing Division One side Norwich City.)
He has to organise the team, which includes an extremely aggressive defender, an alcoholic mackem, a playboy midfielder, and a goal-shy striker and get them to the World Cup Finals in Brazil.

This is a brilliant film that is hilarious and genius. And you don't have to be a football fan to enjoy it. But it's a shame that the television series that followed this was nowhere near as good as this.

9/10

What film did you last watch? Did you like it? Did you dislike it? How many marks out of 10 would you give it?

Been watching Rio Bravo today. A great western, although I tend to prefer the other version with Robert Mitchum and Jack Elam, Rio Lobo.
But few men under siege trying to do the right thing - always works.

Also watched Mr & Mrs Smith last night. Rubbish, lost interest after a while, and then saw Hannibal, but again, not very good.
Yeah that's right, rescue the serial killer and set him free, because here's no way he would do anything bad.
All loathsome characters too, even the brilliant Julianne Moore couldn't rescue it for me.

Tonight we got Mad Max and Kung Fu Hustle, so will be much better. :D

Last film I saw was Doomsday, to sum it up it was a nice Bentley advert.

It started off interesting with brains been blown out against a wall but then began the downward spiral into its been done before so many times but this is worse. It did have a couple of things that would arouse you attention but apart from that it was rubbish.

I will give it 4 smurfs out of 10 :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: :smurf:

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Second only to The Wrath of Khan when it comes to Trek movies. Tame effects by modern standards but it was made in 1979.

WΔS

(which is probably pronounced "double yoo delta zed" despite the fact I've been calling it Wazz for shits and giggles all week)

A solid enough cop thriller in the vein of Seven (think grimy, piss-soaked sets filled with pimps, hookers and crack smoking psychos and you're probably close to the nicer parts of the film). Good performances all round and, more importantly, it's a lower budget UK funded film that plays the Hollywood big boys at their own game and does a bloody good job of it too. It may be a little generic for the most part and the grisly torture premise of the film's serial killer does touch on Saw-esque ideas but what it does it does very well indeed.

I watched Mad Max last night and I have to say, the more I see that film, the more rubbish I think it is. There is little plot in there, little background too, just a lot of driving about. It is a movie set in its time, but...
Some of the drama moments are really heavy, with loud blaring music, and the bikers plan in the end is one of the worst - shoot him in the leg and then drive over him on our bikes. Not cars, not steamrollers, but bikes. I don't know, it would get 7 smurfs at best now. :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: out of ten.

But hey, Manhunter is on tonight. Proper Hannibal Lector, and great movie.

Is this the version where you're left in no doubt as to whether Deckard is a replicant?

If so, doesn't it spoil the fun?

I missed the end.

They have cleaned up the video for the final cut, the directors cut is really grainy.

Don't start me off on that! I've had long arguments about this before and I will again!!!!
Sir Anthonee Hopkeens is an overacting ham! A ham I say!

As for Blade Runner, my dad has the final cut, or whatever it is, and I think the so called hard evidence according to Scott is the dream sequence. I never saw it as a fact, so think still open to interpretation.
I like Scott a lot, but that is one thing I really disagree on, prefer the mystery, whereas he seems to want to ram it home. Also like the fact others disagree, so, um, there!

Mind you, have heard they are doing yet another edition. They have even shot some scenes for it. Not sure about that but I do remember reading about it on a movie site.

Oh by the way, Manhunter was as great as ever, and gets 9 out of 10 smurfs :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: :smurf: (I wish they were evil smurfs or something but hey)

Just back from seeing The Happening. I dunno why but I didn't mind it. It wasn't exactly the best film. A load of unintentional laughs and it was like the actors were playing it for laughs. So I don't know if was intended to be a serious film or not. If so, then it failed.

M Night Shyamalan seriously needs to take a look at it and see figure out what he was meant to be doing.
