so you love Emo but ? [most depressing band poll]

I just don't agree that it's right to lump various bands together as depressing. Just using the bands that seemed to have cropped up as examples (namely the Manics and The Smiths) the two just dont fit together. I think it goes without saying that music wise they are extremely different. Lyrics wise I find Morrissey to be more over melodramatic and sometimes mopey. With the early Manics however (perhaps it's just me) I find that there's more anger, there's a certain vicious streak behind the words.

I think its wrong to just label bands as depressing. It all just depends upon the mood of the listener at the time.
If you associate a song or a band with a bad period in your life and find yourself down when listening to the music in question, it's not the bands fault. For example I couldn't listen to Joy Zipper for ages, despite that they sound like My Bloody Valentine mixed with The Beach Boys. It wasn't because the music was morbid (because it isn't), it was because I associated it with my ex.

Souless music is depressing. What ever the term is for that stuff they play on the regular channels, a mix between rap and ditzy pop. No ambition in it at all. Or energy, for that matter.

Sorry it took so long for me to edit and correct the mistakes in the poll, because I forgot that I could.

I decided to vote for My Chemical Romance, for it was they who kickstarted the whole Emo thing that we know of today. While Emo had been around before MCR's success, it was MCR who brought Emo into the mainstream music and left it there.

Also, anybody who voted for Radiohead needs a nice smack in the chops. If they're depressing, then Crimson Tears was Real AC's greatest ever member.

i found OK computer and in rainbows a little bit depressing, not on a par with many of the bands listed here but they still hold a certain depression about them. like 15 step or subterranean komesick alien for example. but those qualities make Radiohead one of my favourite bands so im not complaining :)
