ADV in trouble?

#1 Post by kodama » Thu Jun 26, 2008 10:33 pm

When they're auctioning off "surplus furniture" and making staff cut backs things must be really bad.

I've also seen a unconfirmed report that they've stopped production on Welcome to the NHK.

Or they could be re-furbing the office and flogging off the old stuff.

Having just killed their new mag after 2 issues?

Go have a look at the recent posts by Dragoon on TAN. He's normally so calm and sensible.

From what I've heard, PiQ sucked big time.

Most telling for me, is the fact that Rai, the site admin's reply is serious!

He's never ever serious. Ever.

ADV in trouble?

So, putting Welcome to the NHK on cruncyroll was more of a quick dash for money than actually just shoving it on there. I can understand why they'd want it on there now, as if they are going down the toilet no one would buy TV rights to their shows, and DVDs never really sold that well anyway so by putting it on the web they can ensure everyone can view the series.

Still, last year was Geneon, this year it's ADV.....Who will die next year?

ADV aren't dead yet. Just read that one of their voice actors went in for an unspecified (couldn't say) audition this week. It's somebody who I trust, and they wouldn't be casting for shows if they were dead.

Maybe they are just downsizing there business like what Tokyopop be doing, releasing half the amount of stuff so only half of the staff/equipment etc is needed.

The amount of items that they're selling is only a small amount compared to what they own. It's likely just the stuff from the PiQ/Newtype office.

Now ADV have lost the rights to all they have released over the past 2 years, 30 titles in total as they have severed ties with there supplier but anything before that ADV still has the rights to. Its not all doom and gloom for ADV though as they are currently negotiating the rights 20+ new shows.
