Dress as that character you compared yourself to and you should be fine. :P Though I'm pretty sure they're not just for the hardcore fans.

sci-fi fair are easy. just show up and act like a geek. you always be cooler then the pok-e-mon and natro kids no matter how geeky or noode you are.

but there a lot more fair then the London anime expo. :?

I'm being selfless and thinking I wouldn't want you to feel out of place by turning up as the only one not in cosplay.
