Plot to Assassinate Gordon Brown?

The only Prime Minister to ever be assassinated was Spencer Perceval in 1812. Time to get our troops out of Iraq, and for Gordon Brown to step down, he does have a wife and kids after all.

Meh, they got caught. That in itself shows you how amateurish they are.

Considering Spencer Percival was assassinated by a mentally-ill man who blamed the prime minister for his money losses, this will make it the first serious attempt to assassinate a Prime Minister, and apparently being done by Al Queda makes it even worse.

I think being charged with "belonging or professing to belong to al-Qaida", means that they are probably wannabes.

Although from what I remember of their tactics, they choose easily manipulated people and wind them up like clock work toys. They rarely actually do anything themselves.

Plot to Assassinate Gordon Brown?

Surely the Gunpowder plot was an attempt to assassinate the PM, along with the King and the rest of Parliament?

Also, we've done away with royalty, legally and otherwise, so doing over a democratically elected official is nothing for us.

These blokes just remind me of those rednecks they caught trying to kill Obama. Well, they planned to, somehow. Driving round with guns and drugs in the truck not the smartest move however.

Oh, the IRA once fired a rocket at Thatcher and her cabinet too. Bloody terrorists. She lived!

IRA tried to kill Thatcher countless times, they almost did in 84 (kill a lot of other people in the government with the same bomb).

There was no PM then, not until 1800's.

The first Prime Minister was Henry Campbell-Bannerman, who took office in 1905. Prior to that, the position was known as "First Lord of the Treasury". Therefore, there could not have been a plot to kill the Prime Minister in 1812.

Nowadays, the Prime Minister is also the First Lord of the Treasury, and in fact 10 Downing Street is the official residence of the First Lord of the Treasury, NOT the Prime Minister.

True Campbell-Bannerman was the first official Prime Minister but the name was used informally for the First Lord of the Treasury years before that. (dating back to the mid 1800's i think)

Well, dunno about attempts, but Spencer was the first one to actually be assassinated. And I forgot about the Gunpowder Plot.

As for the First Lord of the Treasury stuff, as you said, now the Prime Minister is also the First Lord of the Treasury, so all prior to them probably held a very similar position, so that would be why they are known as Prime Ministers?

There's four moons. The moon, Cruifne and two with stupid names. What's wrong with QI.

Yup. The kind of jumped-up little pricks who think they're so terribly hip and edgy because they've got some hastily cobbled together political agenda. And who say Gordon Brown's rubbish, yeah, for no readily apparent reason other than It's Satire, Yeah? The whole thing makes me think of this quote (readily attributed to Chris Morris although I'm sure it's not him) where he suggested that the 7/7 bombers were something "like pissed off, pompous, narcissistic adolescents, blowing themselves up in something like a more extreme version of self-harming."

Nah we say GB's rubbish due to him screwing the economy royally.

And if that isn't enough, take a look at your pension and see how well he did then.
