Quick update on the Russia/Georgia incident,

Georgia have pulled their troops out of the area in question and have called a ceasefire, although Russia are still bombing Georgian towns and cities from the air

Big surprise there. Also another group of independents are kicking off in Georgia now.

On a sad note, Isaacs Hayes has died

Yes, just seen that.
Many will speak about his music, but to me the Duke of New York has gone.

I would say that, but keep thinking of how they killed him off and why, so thought best leave that topic alone. :shifty:

*tears* It is so sad when someone dies. Bernie Mac died recently too. This is part of the reason I hate the news. It can be so depressing.

Great to see hypocrisy alive and well. George Bush and Dick Cheney telling the Russians off for their actions.
While I suspect the Russians, or rather Putin's regime, of many things, the simple truth is Georgia invaded another place. The Russians can intervene. The basic fact is they have more reason to do what they're doing than the US and ourselves had to do in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Interesting the lack of attention the original invasion got as well. But then hey, we like Georgia, and their resources. :|

If Russia had merely moved to defend the citizens that consider themselves Russian and left it at that, I would have more sympathy for them. However as usual they just used it as an excuse to come crashing in and make themselves comfy where they're not welcome. If it had been a piece of worthless piece of land the Georgians could have bombed it back into the stone age and the Russians wouldn't have blinked.

I did think Dick Cheney's language was rather hawkish (or bluster), I can't see the US starting a 3rd WW for some tiny ex USSR republic.

God I hope not!

Then again don't underestimate the power of small countries. The balkans were tiny but they led to quite a bit of trouble. Sometimes all it takes is a spark.
